 KINDERGARTEN
Welcome to Kindergarten! We are so excited to begin a new school year and look forward to a wonderful year of learning! During the first few weeks of school we will get to know each other better. We will play games, listen to stories, sing new songs, color and have show and tell. Just learning to share, take turns and be kind to one another are so important during the first months.
A special, warm welcome goes out to our new Kindergarten Aide, Miss Cassandra Trahan. She will be a great addition to our class!
In Religion we will realize that Jesus is our special friend who is always with us. We will learn about creation, read Bible stories and practice our prayers. It will be fun getting to know the 7th and 8th grade students who will sit and help us to listen during Mass.
Sorting, graphing, tallying and making patterns will keep us busy in Math. Every day we will practice counting the days of school and reading the calendar.
The children will be learning letters, beginning sounds and rhyming words in Phonics. We will enjoy stories, poems and fingerplays in Reading, along with recognizing some basic sight words. We will recite our “color cheers.” These help us to recognize and spell the color words!
In Science, we will explore the world of creepy, crawly bugs! We hope to hatch Monarch butterflies and watch the metamorphosis of mealworms. Our unit on Apples and Johnny Appleseed should be lots of fun and delicious, too!
As the fall season approaches, the children will learn about the leaves changing colors, pumpkins, hibernating animals and the adventures of Christopher Columbus. In November our attention will turn to Pilgrims and Native Americans, complete with a Thanksgiving feast!
In Kindergarten we are beginning an adventure of developing a responsible, well-rounded child. We look forward to making Kindergarten a happy and successful beginning of an enjoyable career for your child at St. Peter/St. Francis School.
