EIGHTH GRADE
Welcome Back to School!
Summer is ending. Soon all the leaves will be changing and the cool crisp breezes of autumn will certainly be welcomed in grade 8. I am really looking forward to the new school year. I do hope to have the students engaging in lively discussions, while making new discoveries and informed choices.
This year we will be studying the life and times of Jesus in religion class. We will focus on the geography and history of the area we read so much of in the Bible. This will work out very well seeing that geography this year will focus on Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa as well. It is a great time in the lives of our children to learn about those regions of the world. Through our studies we should be able engage in the lively discussions I mentioned earlier.
Grade 8 history will focus on post Civil War up to the present. I am happy to say that we have a new history series that we’ll be using that is more up to date and informative. Grade 7 history will focus on the settlement of America up through the Civil War.
I am really looking forward to tying literature in with the other subjects. I hope to be reading works that cross over into geography and history. We will cover many genre including but not limited to historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. We will be working to improve and enhance writing skills as well as showcasing hidden talents.
I can’t wait to get the creative juices of the students flowing. I truly enjoy watching students find new ways to express themselves. I love helping them to appreciate their abilities and to be proud of them.
